چکیده

Turbo decoding is based on the concept of maximum likelihood decision on blocks of data. The decision on a bit affects the decoding of subsequent bits. Fading is a type of corruption whose effect can be extended over a period of multiple bits, resulting in significant performance degradation for turbo code. In this paper, a Markov process is utilized to model a fading channel, and bit error rate (BER) performance using BPSK with turbo code is examined. A channel interleaver is used to improve performance. In addition, a technique of using biased channel side information for turbo decoding is introduced. It is demonstrated that this technique can further improve performance.

Performance Analysis of Coded Systems over Block Fading Channels

This paper considers the performance analysis of binary coded systems over block fading (BF) channels. In the transmitter, the coded bits are interleaved prior to transmission to spread burst errors resulting from deeply faded blocks. The union bound on the bit error probability (BEP) is derived assuming uniform interleaving and using the weight enumerator of the code. The union bound is a func...

Performance of Coded Systems with Noncoherent Detection over Block Fading Channels

This paper considers the performance analysis of binary coded systems over block fading (BF) channels with noncoherent detection. In the transmitter, the coded bits are interleaved to spread burst errors resulting from deeply faded blocks. The union bound is derived assuming uniform interleaving and using the weight enumerator of the code. The proposed bound is evaluated for convolutional and t...

Turbo codes for noncoherent FH-SS with partial band interference

In this paper, turbo codes are investigated in a slow frequency-hopped spread spectrum (FH-SS) system with partialband jamming. In addition, full-band thermal noise is present. The channel model is that of a partial-band jammer in which a fraction of the frequency band is jammed and the remaining fraction is unjammed. This paper focuses on the implemention and performance of a modified turbo de...

Dependency channel model for transform domain Wyner-Ziv coding

Distributed video coding is a new video coding paradigm aimed at shifting the computational expensive motion estimation to the decoder. Side information is generated at the decoder as a prediction of the current frame. This creates a virtual dependency channel between the source video at the encoder and the side information at the decoder. Error correcting channel codes are used to correct the ...

Joint source-channel coding of binary sources with side information at the decoder using IRA codes

We use systematic irregular repeat accumulate (IRA) codes as source-channel codes for the transmission of an equiprobable memoryless binary source with side information at the decoder. A special case of this problem is joint source-channel coding for a nonequiprobable memoryless binary source. The theoretical limits of this problem are given by combining the Slepian-Wolf theorem, the source ent...
